MANSIONS

In Ottoman times, if your house touches the sea when you reach out from the window, that house was called a mansion. During the Ottoman Period, the first mansions were built on the Golden Horn coast, especially on the Eyüp coast, and then the culture of the mansion gradually shifted to the Bosphorus. According to the Ottoman mansion culture, the mansions of Muslims were light coloured, while the mansions of non-Muslims were grey, and the mansions of those serving the state were made in red. Here are the most famous mansions lined up like pearls on the Bosphorus, extending to Sarıyer and Beykoz.
